please do try to have dinner at the basin in saratoga springs. and breakfast on the terrace at rocky point restaurant in big sur. it seems expensive, but breakfast in big sur is expensive, even at the roadside diner, so we found it to be a real treasure. we took our tip along the CA coast last october - every beautiful chicago day i remember it fondly. you're going to have a great time.
my fiance and i flew to Portland, rented a convertible, and drove to LA for 11 days in September. Our favorite part of the entire trip was Monterey, Carmel, and Santa Barbara. It's so beautiful the whole way and you will LOVE this trip!!
